That could be an interesting move. Would they move Law & Order or Southland to Monday? It’s hard to say which would be the smarter move. Law & Order would probably do a little bit better, but the show is over anyway. At least Southland would have the possible potential for growth, which would give NBC a nice, modest hit. Possibly. Or else both of them would do even worse than Heroes.
In any case, I don’t actually see this happening. They might be talking about it, but talk is cheap. I don’t think they give up on Heroes even when it drops below 2.0. They’ll let it run out this season on Monday.
It’s a question of power. Which producer has the most power right now? SOUTHLAND was prematurely renewed based on that power once.
I think it depends on what outcome NBC expect from whatever show they put in HEROES place on monday. Seems foolish just to put another show in the slot to get crushed by HOUSE & DWTS, so there has to be some coherent thought behind a move.
SOUTHLAND seems the obvious swap & it may be worth the roll of the die. If I remember correctly SOUTHLANDS numbers were declining last season so moving it to monday will give it a shot, rather than just leaving it to die on fridays.
On Fridays it will go up against Smallville and the CBS Ghost shows. It can beat Smallville but i don’t know about CBS.How about freakin Tuesdays? There is nothing on Tuesday nights i watch now,Fringe got moved to Thursdays.
Yes, but Tuesday has Biggest Loser, which does very well for NBC.
I’m looking forward to the Heroes banishment.
If this were to happen, and I have to beleive that NBC will give a few weeks for this to play out, it would depend on which of L & O or Southland did best on fridays. If L & O can come close to Ghost Whisperer or even beat it then they would likely get the first move out of Fridays. Conversely if Southland can’t beat or even come close to Medium ( or Dollhouse or Ugly Betty) then they are unlikely to be offered a lifeline out of Friday. Also how humiliating would it be for NBC to shift a show to a friday slot to lose to Medium when last year it was Medium’s lead in.
If I had to guess I would pick L & O as NBC seemed to use the whole franchise as pinch hitters in the spring and summer. They seem to be a show that can be thrown in and not get awful numbers.
Lauren NBC can banish Heroes but there will be another show of that type right around the corner. They already have swamped TV with the forensic shows, the law shows and the “DR.” shows.
Also how does this affect the split season plan. Heroes had a order for 19 episodes, is the replacement show limited to that, if it does well does it get the slot and Chuck is moved to fridays after Heroes is over.
ken, It will just play out on Fridays and get replaced by something else. It will have no affect on CHUCK or any other show except for what gets moved to Mondays.
Chuck isn’t slated to replace Heroes, anyway. It’s supposed to replace Trauma or Mercy or whatever show is currently slated for 8 pm on Monday.
Julia, HEROES has the early time slot now, TRAUMA debuts next week after HEROES. HEROES is the lead in.
I could’ve sworn it was the other way around. Which means I totally didn’t understand a conversation I had yesterday. Whoops.
If it’s moved to Friday how will that affect G4 which re-airs Monday’s episodes on Tuesday.
Still have yet to watch Monday’s episode.
Does anyone watch G4? If they do move it, obviously G4 would air it on Tuesdays after the new episode on Friday.
Brad, I suggest lots of alcohol. That might make it better.
I am curious how this does not affect Chuck. Chuck was to replace Heroes at 8 and Day One replaces Trauma. If they put something at 8 for a full season that leaves Chuck as the man out.
If that does go down I am concerned about Chuck debuting in March. Also what are the odds for a back 9 for Chuck. They are going to have to decide in a few months right?
I mean I am suffering through this horrible fall season just to see Chuck, if they screw with this show some more I am going to lose it.
Thanks.
Agent Chuck, If it’s L&O that received a short order as well. If it’s SOUTHLAND I’m not sure that show will survive. CHUCK won’t be on the air until March, so it doesn’t really affect CHUCK.
Nick, maybe I’m a bit thick but Heroes was scheduled to run until january/february, L&O is on friday night, currently penciled in for the fall and spring. Presumably if it does well enough – and I expect it to- it gets a full season renewell and with the aid of repeats runs until may. So monday is a split season night, friday isn’t, so if you move a full season show into a split season slot it would seem that could have an effect on the second season show for that time period. If L&O does well on monday, does it get moved again to finish out the season or does Chuck. The same hold true if Trauma or Mercy do well enough to get a full season renewell, so they get moved to a new slot or does Day One or Parenthood get bumped. I realize that we are talking about NBC shows and the likelihood of sucess and renewell is slim but it is a real possibility.
Sorry, I type slowly, didn’t see your reply above.
I watch G4 and know about the Heroes run on it.
Nick,
It’ll be a weekend watch for me. I heard it was bad…but I just can’t quit the show. I keep coming back to it.
Personally, this all strikes me as far-fetched.
What exactly would replace it? Southland? Chuck? L&O? There’s no evidence that any of these shows would do better than a 2.7 in the slot (and content issues with Southland at 8pm as well).
Now, it is true that NBC has no good lead-in to Trauma (especially at that price tag!). But NBC knew this when they set the schedule, which makes these desperation moves based on one result (and House will go down), before even seeing how the second half of the night does, odd.
*Unless, of course, NBC heads have seen the upcoming finished episodes of Heroes and are finally admitting what a cluster-frag Kring has made of the show.
That said, we all knew Monday was going to be a disaster for NBC from the get go (neither Trauma’s nor Day One’s ratings will support their budgets, Heroes will decay even more vs. House, and Chuck’s ratings won’t rise above a 3.0 despite all the critical praise) – is NBC seeing reality _now_? Just a few months too late on that one.
(Not that it affects me in the least. I hulued the season opener, thought to myself “Nope, not worth my time”, and forgot the show existed.)
I honestly feel that they won’t move it anywhere. They’ll just leave it there until the end of the season. That’s just a guess though, but it seems like it might just be more complicated if they tried to move it, and the chances they’ll have something that can achieve a better result are slim to none.
I don’t get the point of moving Heroes to Friday. If either Law and Order or Southland took the slot they would make Heroes ratings look impressive in comparison.
Tom,
“*Unless, of course, NBC heads have seen the upcoming finished episodes of Heroes and are finally admitting what a cluster-frag Kring has made of the show.”
That could well be a possibility.
Brad-Watch it,it wasn’t that bad! It could have been better but it was a good watch!
If the content didn’t suck (and trust Bryan Fuller who ran away from it) all these arguments might mean something. The point is that was the premiere and the belief is that the show will drop in ratings, and once under a 2.5 it’s a goner.
Could SOUTHLAND (which btw is airing at 8pm I believe on Friday, but I could be mistaken) do better? It’s certainly possible. It is very possible for a show to pull a 3.0+ in that time slot even against the heavy competition.
Southland premiere was pushed back a month, both because the show was behind schedule and because NBC was worried about not getting in enough promotion to counter the other shows in the time slot…
in other words, NBC was scared of how well Southland would do vs. Ugly Betty, Medium, and Dollhouse.
So yeah, I’m dubious that Southland would do 3.0+ on Monday. (What would their ad campaign be, anyway? Can’t wait until 10pm to get your police procedural fix? Try Southland at 8!)
Could NBC move Heroes because they are afraid of their upcoming ratings? Sure.
Will the replacement necessarily do any better? Probably not.
Not that I put anything past NBC at this point.
Maybe a new show could pull a 3.0 but Southland ain’t that show.
Southland will be airing Friday at 9 pm beginning October 23.
Its summer reruns aired Friday 8 pm.
I get the sense nobody on this board cares about Southland (an excellent show which I am a fan of). You guys can’t even get the timeslot right. It’s all about loving Chuck and hating Dawn Ostroff on this site.
sad face.
Resume your Chuck loving…
You’re wrong “me” i love Dawn Ostroff as a woman but i DO NOT LIKE her for running CW…….in the grave!
Oh,and i’ll never give Southland my time. That’s why there are different shows to watch, some for you and some for me!
P.S. I can’t wait for Chuck!
me, well when SOUTHLAND comes back I’ll likely write some about it or someone here will. Right now Dawn is looking like the idiot she is, and it just needs to be pointed out. I haven’t posted about CHUCK in a while so I don’t know where that is coming from.
HEROES being moved has nothing to do with CHUCK.
Unfortunately, most of the visitors here see everything as being directly related to Chuck. Trust me, me, I hate it more than you.
Wow, I had already speculated on Heroes being moved to Fridays in your “HEROES Debuts To Series Lows, NBC Sharpens Axe (Or How Much Longer Will HEROES Last?)” thread.
Though I must confess that I was thinking that a move wouldn’t happen for at least a few more weeks, until after L&O and Southland had already premiered. I don’t think that Southland will do too well on Fridays at 9:00, though I question whether anything other than Medium will do very well in that time slot.
Based on those two choices, I think that L&O would do better on Mondays at 8:00, though I honestly don’t think that either would perform too well. I just believe that L&O would be the least worst option.
To: me,
I did know that Southland is scheduled for Fridays at 9:00, but after having seen the first two episodes I cant say that I am a fan.
P.S. I just saw the edit option. A great feature and very much appreciated!
The only thing that could pull better numbers than Heroes for NBC on Mondays is Biggest Loser. That just wont happen because its does too well on Tuesdays and would require a massive lineup change (which might be smart- but ill timed). ** Idea – Biggest Southland to Tuesday behind a BL launch. It lowers BL’s ratings on one day but could increase the ratings of another show significantly. They would come out ahead.
No, NBC will stick with Heroes on Mondays because there is nothing else. Nothing. Monday 8pm is the equivalent to the Friday wasteland for NBC. It’s just not going to get the ratings. You can thank a sobering diagnostician and Kelly Osborne for that.
AO, I’m trying to decide if the edit function should be longer than five minutes. Thinking of going up to 10 in case it takes you a few minutes to notice a typo. But I don’t want to leave it too long or else people could have the option of completely changing what they say in the middle of an argument.
If chuck replaces with heroes,it can’t do better than heroes.I watched chuck in S2 and after things i heard about S3 i lost my interest to watch chuck.Only southland can replace with heroes.
Julia, can you make the edit feature stop counting down while actually in the process of editing? And five minutes seems fine to me. Maybe let it be longer if there haven’t been any later comments on the blog entry. If that’s an option.
And Southland is pretty damn good. And it’s a lot more of a character drama/soap than a procedural.
Awww that sucks. Well we always knew it was doomed when it was moved into the new timeslot but I don’t see any other NBC show doing better in that slot.
What does this mean for Dollhouse? It and Heroes kind of share the same audience. If Heroes comes on at 8pm then it’ll be cool IMO but if it’s 9pm then DH won’t fair too well.
I’m curious to see how well MERCY did last night. I’m guessing badly as:
a. It’s on NBC in the first place
b. The reviews sucked
c. The reviews were right
Looks like I was wrong. 8.24 million viewers for MERCY. That’s better than I expected.
Nick, what does this mean for heroes now that mercy and law and order did worse in the demos than heroes?
Jack, all I can do is up the amount of time allowed. It’s at 15 minutes now, which I think should be fair. I’ll look around and see if there are any other comment plugins that might have more options.
Mercy did meh last night. I can’t see this getting past its initial (IIRC) 13 Episode order. Trachtenberg needs to sign on Gossip Girl as a Series Regular.
Mercy did meh alright, it’s just I was expecting an aarrghh instead.
I’m not entirely sure how much point there is to moving Heroes now.
It seems absurd to me that anybody in NBC realistically expected Heroes to return much bigger than it did, just looking at the performance (commercially and creatively) for the past two years should have ended that dream. However its hard to see what they can put in the shows place that will do much better or better at all. On paper at least all NBC has are sinking ships, so essentially they’d be replacing one sinking ship (Heroes) with another (Southland or Law & Order).
Having said that if they have visions of Trauma being a hit it’ll probably need a stronger launching pad than Heroes. If they wanted to be brave they could try splitting the 2-hours of Biggest Loser across Monday and Tuesday at 8, to have it serve as a lead-in to Trauma on Monday and then one of Heroes, Southland or Law & Order on Tuesday but that potentially comes with a lot of risks.
Basically if I thought NBC had a show that wouldn’t just sink on Monday nights as well then I’d be all for a move but it just seems to me that they don’t and that the results are going to suck a lot no matter what.
We need more Claire in a spandex outfit – that’s sure to help the ratings *g*
And get rid of Sylar for good – isn’t he supposed to be looking for Vulcan anyway.

Here’s the “scam”. It’s running on the streets, unlike you predicted.
Now we’d like to hear some apologies for trying to undermine a loyal fanbase.
Otherwise I just hope you get a well-deserved ostracism.
Leo, did the site profit off idiots? YES. It’s a scam. It doesn’t matter if they provide product if they profit off you. They know the show will never be renewed, so it’s a scam.
Plus shouldn’t fans of TSCC be thanking me? The scammers were forced to at least deliver product. That may not have been the case without the big “fuss,” my article created.
