What Would Do Worse Than TBL On The CW? How About Repeats of MELROSE PLACE! (Or Dawn Ostroff is both stuborn and stupid)

In news that surprised nobody today, The CW canceled THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE. However in news that stunned people The CW…
has decided that repeats of MELROSE PLACE will run in its spot. MELROSE PLACE which has awed audiences with its amazing numbers (the last TBL had a .5 in the demo, the last MELROSE had a .7) … no wait. Look I’d understand moving SMALLVILLE back if the numbers from tonight weren’t great. I’d even understand running a repeat of VAMPIRE DIARIES the night before a new episode. That kind of makes sense. However this is just as stupid (and pointless) as last season.
If those of you remember, last season The CW had PRIVILEGED which was a flop (at .8 average in the demo). They let it run for 19 episodes, ordering 6 instead of the full back 9. MELROSE PLACE is following the same path. 6 new scripts (but they haven’t been green lit) have been ordered. That would make 19. Last season The CW had another flop after ANTM too. When they killed it they put reruns of 90210 in its place. That helped make 90210 more profitable for them based on their arrangement.
We won’t find out until tomorrow if The CW is being stupid with the initial decision or smart. If SMALLVILLE can pull in its normal 1.5 and 4M viewers I don’t see any uproar. If SMALLVILLE crashes on Friday you know that Warners will be upset.
Again airing repeats during prime time? How much longer can The CW go on like this?
I can’t say that I am stunned by the news of the MP reruns.
Obviously these repeats will make all the difference and soon Melrose Place will be an unparalleled success (amongst girls Age 15.5 – 16.25, or something like that).
Oh wait! These repeats will be on against Glee? Never mind then.
What would do worse? How about whatever is airing on MyNetwork TV? Oh, wait, that’s right. Nevermind.
While it is fun to look at how stupid Dawn Ostroff is being, doesn’t some of the blame for The CW’s problems begin to fall on Les Moonves? Dawn has shown that she will continue to pull crap like this if she remains employed.
I wish Dawn’s Contract was canceled along with the Beautiful Life. I wish they could bring Reaper back but the producers and a couple of the actors have found employment over at Fox. Why don’t they try and get the Game back before BET gets it. The Game would surely do better than Melrose Place Reruns.
Whilst I can’t say I agree with the decision I can see why they’re doing it and its hard to slam the move without knowing the agreement they have for Melrose Place and how Smallville held up last night. Of course regardless of those factors it still seems to me that using this chance to move Smallville off of Friday night’s was something they should have jumped at and in theory Smallville is probably one of their only shows that would hold up well against Glee, which is huge with the ‘CW demo’.
At the same time if they wanted to put Melrose Place behind Top Model why not put original episodes there and move Smallville into the Melrose slot? Keeping the show paired with 90210 clearly isn’t working so its not like they have anything to lose, beyond having to axe a third show that followed Top Model in two seasons obviously.
What AO said. Good luck competing against Glee, MP reruns.
I’m going to cry for the Body Politic now. Again.

Love that idea. Hadn’t really thought of that.
I love the idea of moving Melrose behind ANTM as well. Melrose is failing behind 90210, and if it can’t work there, it can’t work anywhere. Let it stand on its own, see if the Heather Locklear coup works, and if it does, then it can do so on its own night and be its own success. 90210, which is creatively improving this season, couldn’t hurt from a Smallville pairing. 90210 appears to be stable, and perhaps bringing on a stronger show like Smallville (assuming there’s still a chance at a rebound after last night’s premiere) couldn’t hurt in getting it a little new exposure.
How many of you have actually seen The Body Politic?
