Ok, so ’tis the season (or my season anyway) and what better way to show some of my “Holiday Spirit” than to share some of my favorite Horror movies! I write Horror and Sci-fi news so there are way many more movies on my favorites list just letting yall know, this could have been a Top 50 list! Tell me what yall think! What’s your favorites?
5.A Nightmare On Elm Street- Wes Craven’s masterpiece and a timeless Horror classic! Nightmare introduced us to Freddy Krueger(Robert Englund) and his clawed glove and made us afraid to go to sleep and dream. Be on the lookout for the Nightmare remake in Spring of 2010 as Jakie Earle Haley(Watchmen) takes over Freddy’s glove and trademark sweater!

4.2001 Maniacs- This is my guilty pleasure! Writer/Director Tim Sullivan’s fun gore fest featuring the dead residents of Pleasant Valley who enjoy a good party and devouring their party guests! Robert Englund plays Mayor Buckman who leads the cast packed full of familiar faces and many cameos! Be on the look out early spring 2010 for 2001 Maniacs 2: Beverly Hellbillys and please sign my Petition to Lionsgate Home Video to release the Director’s Cut of 2001 Maniacs!

3.Phantasm- This cult classic might be the most under-rated Horror movie of all time. The Tall Man played by Horror legend Angus Scrimm gives you chills watching his mannerisms and listening to the few words he speaks. This is Don Coscarelli’s indie masterpiece and if you haven’t seen it you should check it out!

2.Hellraiser- This movie born from Clive Barker’s ‘The Hellbound Heart’ might be the creepiest film i’ve ever seen. Clive Barker introduced us to the iconic Pinhead and his Cenobite army who comes when the Lamont Configuration(the puzzle box) is opened to show you the pleasure of pain!

1. Halloween- Are you kidding me? This is THE Halloween/Horror movie! John Carpenter’s Opus and probably the movie that sucked me in to what i love! Michael Myers, the silent pale-faced (William Shatner) mask wearing killer who wreaks havoc on October 31st. oh and don’t forget the freaky music! Everybody knows that tune!

I agree with #1, #3 and #5. Have yet to see #4 and really don’t care for #2 (Hellraiser). But no Dawn of the Dead? Man…I’ve seen that film dozens of times.
I’ve always shied away from the gorier side of horror, and have a deep love of horror that’s mixed with humor.
Then there was that period about a decade ago where there were all those films with b-movie souls but better budgets, and tended to be entirely tongue in cheek. The Mummy, Deep Rising, Lake Placid, the Frighteners (oh, my love for that movie will never die), House on Haunted Hill….Idle Hands (how could i have forgotten it?!), Sleepy Hollow… 1999 was a good year for that stuff.
Yeah, the ‘cheesy’ horror stuff is great too, especially stuff that caters to teens. I love all the teen horror films from the 80’s on. Just got NIGHT OF THE CREEPS in the mail today on Blu-ray. Can’t wait to watch it tonight!
Brad L-My list is huge and i could keep it going…lol I agree with you on The Dead!
Rachel N-I love The Frighteners too! What a cool movie and guess who directed it!
Also guess what i have sitting right here in front of me! My DVD of Idle Hands, you know what it should have been in my Top 5 and it was staring right at me! It is another awesome guilty pleasure!
Oh heck yeah Brad i love the cheesy ones too! Bring them on my friend! Night of the Creeps is being remade too…lol…What isn’t these days!
Phantasm! I love those movies.
Those movies are the reason I don’t trust those KINO’s on SGU. I’ve seen what flying spheres can do!
Night of the Creeps is being remade? Oh boy…
Why on earth would they remake Night of the Creeps? It already got sort-of remade recently with Slither.
As far as I’m aware, both movies were box office failures despite being damn good movies. I don’t know why anyone would think a third, probably poorer quality, movie would do any better.
