Is anyone else going to be watching V when it premieres? I'm really looking forward to it.

I was very intrigued by the 1st 9 minutes of the pilot. I have to admit, for a remake, the pilot was well written, acted and the production design was much better than the original. However, the original still had great characters and I don't think the new one could replace the original. However, the pilot was great!

Well the pilot isn't all that well written or acted… but the production design is light years better than the original.  The original had a much more powerful message that I bet they don't want to repeat since we're actually moving towards what the creator was warning us against.

Except that a lot of the tv critics are giving the new pilot high praises and actually thinks it's more comparable to Lost than FlashForward.

95% of TV Critics haven't even posted their reviews yet.  So I don't know where you get that nonsense.  If you're talking about the quotes from the adverts, it's funny many of those quotes are from reviews not even up yet.

We'll wait and see what the critics think.  I've actually seen the show, and I was far from impressed.  It's a prettier and watered down version of the original.

When I said a lot, I meant a lot of the major critics.

Matt Roush of TV Guide said, "I've seen only seen the V pilot – several times, actually, each time yearning to see more – so I can't be sure it will hold up on a weekly basis. But I was instantly seduced and hooked by its lavish production values and strong cast (see page 30), led by Lost's Elizabeth Mitchell as the requisite FBI skeptic and Morena Bacarrin as the unnervingly alluring leader of the Vs. There's a juicy, immediate urgency to the interpersonal and intergalactic melodrama, with plenty of action and surprising reveals."

Brian Lowry- Daily Variety
http://www.variety.com/review/…..&cs=1
"At least initially, the real breakout here is Baccarin, who might be TV's coolest alien since the invention of the Vulcan nerve pinch. The idea, moreover, that extraterrestrials would come wrapped in an attractive package and shrewdly manipulate the media feels especially eerie given the state of our media today (though there is one unfortunately clunky line of dialogue about "universal health care").

For the most part, though, writer Scott Peters and company — updating Kenneth Johnson's original — have assembled an appealing and diverse cast that highlights the "We're all in this together" aspect of dealing with such a fantastic threat. And the idea of being unsure who to trust deftly taps into the same vein of malevolent foes and "sleeper cells" hiding in plain sight that "Battlestar Galactica" mined."

Barry Garron Hollywood Reporter
http://www.hollywoodreporter.c…..2195.story
"Bold and still surprising, ABC's new "V" is clever enough for a cult following and accessible enough to reach a broad demo."
" It could be complicated, but Peters' tightly written teleplay makes it easy to follow. In addition, the pilot raises provocative issues without getting didactic. That, combined with mythology less dense than, say, ABC's "Lost," should make this an attractive viewing option."

I just watched the pilot. I thought it was pretty good. It did feel kind of rushed though; I think it should have been a two hour premiere.

Jack is my favorite character so far. And it is always good to see Steve the Pirate/Wash the Pilot.

Anyways, I'll be tuning in next week.

The pilot did big numbers:

Wow! I was predictinf around 9 million! I thought for sure NCIS would crush it.

I just hope it can maintain those numbers after the long hiatus. Jericho wasn't able to, but I hope V is.

Ok so those Industry heavy trades had good reviews…

What about the NEW YORK TIMES?  It trashed it.  NEW YORK DAILY NEWS?  It trashed it.  KANSAS CITY STAR?  It trashed it.  AUSTIN AMERICAN STATESMAN?  It trashed it.  NEWSDAY?  It trashed it.  Philedelphia Daily News?  Yep, another bad review.

It's formulaic and thus a poor rewrite of a TV show in the 80s that wasn't formulaic.  Lucky for all of us, this is just a mini-series (with the closing series next year).

The pilot was quite good. In fact, it reminded me of Heroes pilot. And ABC said repeatedly that they have 4 season plan for V. I read the New York Times review. But, other major papers like the LA Times, Chicago Tibune and USA Today liked it. As did the Boston Globe. So did Matt Roush of TV Guide.Again, most critics liked it.

According to Metacritic, most critics were indifferent.

The show is a mini-series.  They've been telling everyone that all week.  It is a two parter.  Will a 3rd or 4th chapter happen?  They claim it's possible.  Right now only a 1st and 2nd chapter have been written.

Nick C, just because you don't like something doesn't make it bad.

No.  Formulaic writing, etc. make it bad.  I've seen multiple episodes, how many have you seen?

It's a weak reboot of a series that had huge flaws after the original mini-series ran (meaning the 2nd mini-series on) and unfortunately the people behind the new show don't "get it," but they understood the massive viewing numbers the show originally received.  Which the new show didn't even match.

Plus, it looks like it's losing what ratings it did get each week.
